Day 8 – Just like riding a bike (14th October)

With no real plans today we thought we’d explore a bit more on the bikes. It’s been a great way to cover a lot of ground that’s for sure. Despite not having ridden for many years it’s been fun to explore the waterfront this way.

The walkway goes forever it seems so we head in a different direction to see what’s there. As always it’s a warm day but because of the breeze from riding and coming from the water it doesn’t feel quite so hot. It seems the area we explored was full of more high end resorts, with people to match. Now Matthew and I love nice things too but it’s evident here there are many who we wouldn’t consider “our people”.
There also seems to be many more speed bumps in the bike lane too which would no doubt have been influenced by the clientele staying at the many luxury resorts too. Funnily enough, there’s no one who really would use it as a race track, everyone on bikes are just cruising along, very much in holiday mode. So all it does is serves as a deterrent as the speed bumps are not friendly to your butt.
After a small unpleasant exchange with one of these types of guests, we decide to head for a relaxing breakfast down the other end which is totally more our vibe. It’s interesting how the further away we rode from that area, the more chilled and less tense we felt.

We enjoy a nice quiet breakfast while listening to a little boy at the table next to us entertain his family with a song or two, and we have been kept company by one of the many dogs here who hasn’t at all been perturbed by our presence, sleeping happily under our table since we arrived, and I’m sure continued to do so long after we left.
Matthew had spotted something in the water and headed down to see what it was. A piece of an old fishing boat which we decide to scrub up and bring home with us. Another awesome edition to our sea collection for home.
When we arrive back at the villa, sweat now dripping from us as we’d navigated the alleyways away from the sea breeze. So to have a dip in our pool seemed the only logical choice. We pop on some music and enjoy cooling off.

We spend the afternoon relaxing, and enjoy some TV in air conditioned comfort, ordered in a few dishes from a local warung for lunch (we splurged and spend $9.20 today).
The afternoon passes quickly before we realised we should probably shower and head out for some dinner. We’ve chosen to head back to the waterfront as we hadn’t yet experienced what’s it’s like in the night time.
We found a place to dine and of course there is live music at almost every venue. We’re shown to our table by the very lovely Joshua, as we just lap up the atmosphere as we’ve been placed near the bar and the kitchen entrance so we enjoy watching the staff interacting with each other as well as giggle at the staff who are singing along as they collect drink orders from the bar.

Matthew and I ordered a soup and some satay skewers each. It’s safe to say as the food comes out we’ve over ordered and we giggle as there’s literally no room left on the table as they so beautifully present each dish.

We say our farewells to the lovely staff and stroll home. We get a number of giggles as we’ve now heard “Country Road” played at nearly every restaurant tonight. Including a cute spot close to our villa which is packed and completely unassuming at the same time. Definitely going to stop in there one night before we leave Bali which sadly is now only a few days away.
