Waking up to a day where we knew is the last full day we’d have together was surreal. But we were very keen to make the very most of it. But firstly I had some blog catch up to do. We’d packed so much into our days (and nights) that there was now a bit of a back log.
It While I blogged, Matthew got all domesticated and made sure all my washing was done so I could go home without having to do a massive wash when I returned. He tinkers around, and pops over from time to time checking in on my progress. Blogging can take some time, especially as I love to detail so much of the day and the people that we’ve met. To capture the memories are so important, especially as my own memory fails so often (just ask my children).
Before we know it, we are decide to head to our new favourite watering hole, Island House, so I get a chance to say goodbye to Robert and the staff there. We arrive and grab a cider and some food, and while we sit there, we decide to contribute to the $1 bills on the wall by signing it and putting a special message on there. There’s a very old school Australian saying that is ‘We’re not here to f#@k spiders’. It’s been very popular to teach this to other nationalities when I have traveled, and Siesta Key is no different. Robert in particular loved it, so while he worked away in the kitchen we fished a $1 bill out and left the note for him, asking the bar staff to take it out back to show him. He pops his head out grinning and thanks us for the cool memory that he promises to get up on the wall. It was the last time I would see him, so I give him a massive hug as he promises to take good care of Matthew for the next week as I head home and he flies solo.

After our farewells, it seems crazy to go home just yet, so we decide to stop and people watch at the Beach Club. It’s another great vantage point we’ve enjoyed before. As we sit and watch the world go by, it doesn’t disappoint. We watch cars, bikes and people. Our favourite sight for today was a dog strapped into a front facing pouch on the chest of it’s owner who was riding a scooter. If that wasn’t enough, the dog had riding glasses on. I wasn’t fast enough to snap the picture, but it certainly gave us a chuckle.
We sit and reminisce about the week that has past, and the fun we’ve had, and of course the next plans. Including that we will need to head home soon to do a bit of Christmas shopping online. We stop to chat to a couple of ladies who were clearly settled in for a big afternoon drinking session, and shared where they were off to later on that night. We didn’t need anymore recommendations as we knew what we had planned for the rest of our time here.
We finally headed back to the house to hang around and do come Christmas shopping and have a few drinks before getting ready to head out for our final dinner of the trip. We’d dressed differently tonight, normally opting for a more casual look, we realise our smart look had attracted some attention from onlookers as we walked past some alfresco casual dining restaurants.
We arrive at the restaurant to be greeted warmly by the staff as they recognised us from our dinner earlier in the week. The warmest greeting came from James ‘Jimmy’ who had waited on us previously and we simply adored.

The sea bass we shared was incredible, but not as much as the company. Matthew and I are never lost for words. We get a chance to interact with Jimmy as he waits tables around us. Before we leave we pose for a picture and invite him to join us for a beer after he knocks off.

We farewell the staff and they’re so warm in their goodbyes to us, so Matthew and I set off to Py the bar next to Blaze, which we had started our first night out at. Seemed fitting to head back there for our final night.
We have also invited a few of the locals we’d met down for a farewell drink too. We have invited Sean. We had to confess to him when we met him, we actually couldn’t remember his name and for a couple of days we were calling him “Steve, not Steve, Maybe Steve”. He thought it was an absolute hoot to hear. Aside from catching up with Sean, we also met some new people in the very gorgeous Jessica, and a lovely young gay couple who were out for a night out together.

After finally getting Thom to visit us, we headed home quite late, and opted for a quiet night cap before retiring for the night. I really can’t believe the holiday we’ve had together, the memories we’ve made and the people we’ve collected. I lie in bed very content with, not just the holiday, but the wonderful life I have!
