Day 5 – It’s the bomb!!

The sun woke me up today around 6.30am. But I was wondering why I hadn’t heard my alarm at 5.30? It’s set for everyday. I was planning a walk along the beach this morning. So after chatting with a few friends back home I throw on my walking gear and earphones and head for the beach. It’s a stunning morning and it’s always great to get there early to see everyone setting up for the day.

There’s lots of dogs out with their owners today, and less strays. A number of people exercising and really sweating it out running up and down the beach. Seems todays humidity is a little lower than normal, but we are still expecting a hot day. Perfect for a day at a waterpark. Waterbom has been a place I have loved taking others who have traveled with me and the girls are pretty excited about it too.
I get back to the hotel and meet the girls to have breakfast. While we are waiting for our food, what can only be described as a procession of children pass by. From the front to the back of this long line it takes about 5 minutes solid for them to pass us. They are two by two, all holding hands with a buddy with breaks in between with teachers and carers. I wonder where they might be off to, as there are a number of different uniforms. It’s then I realise that it’s Saturday and that will also explain why my alarm didn’t go off this morning.
Our breakfast takes a little longer than normal and we are wanting to maximise our time at the park so we’ve planned out our morning to arrive around opening time 9am. We gather our stuff for the day…..yes I remembered the sunscreen (both of them)! We head down to grab a cab, and there seems to be very few right now. Well the right ones anyway. But eventually one shows up and despite my attempts to chat, he seems not great at English so we just relax and enjoy the short ride into Kuta to Waterbom.
We arrive and head straight to the window to collect our prepurchased tickets as well as the information about where we get the key for our cabana. Jamei has kindly shouted us a cabana for the day. You can prebook this as long as you know in advance what day you’re going. But you can also try your luck on a first come, first served basis. At 250,000rupiah (AU$25) it’s a great thing. Fully inclusive of a safe and food delivery to your cabana. All important shade and of course a place to call home for the day.

The girls settle in and quickly set off to try out some of the slides. I take the opportunity to relax and spend time by the pool. Having been here before I know it’s a great position, so when we booked the cabana we made sure we were located there. It’s right in the centre of the park, near the main pool and all the food and drink.

I really loved watching the girls return, all smiles, after experiencing their first rides. I knew they would have a great day here. We balance our day with relaxing by the pool, heading along the lazy river and the girls took on the rides. They get countless photos taken, as they both are getting their fair share of attention of the young Balinese men working around the park. The Balinese smiles are hard to resist. But all in good fun of course.

The girls also try a little Bahasa which is received well. The girls roll their eyes when asked if we are all sisters…..please, get some glasses people. But I guess at least we all look related. The staff around the park are just incredible and so friendly. Every single time you pass someone they greet you with a hello and a smile. They take a lot of pride in keeping the park clean, so you will often see grounds staff passing by sweeping up leaves and frangipanis.

The girls spend some time tanning (with sunscreen on of course grandmother), and we decide to grab some lunch, which of course is delivered promptly to cabana number 7. We have a little issue with our safe, it doesn’t open so Jamei goes on the hunt for help which arrives quickly to resolve the issue, by basically replacing it. He is so apologetic for the inconvenience, which it wasn’t at all. I was just chilling out and relaxing, watching the world go by.
Once it’s all sorted I opt for a nap and completely crash out. Must’ve needed it. Even Jamei popped over apparently and said I didn’t even move a muscle despite her shuffling around the cabana.
When I wake up we enjoy the lazy river and get some snaps together. There are prime locations for some great pictures that are taken by staff, with one guy in particular who takes a special interest in Boston. Super cute. We decide to do another lap of the river, and this is when Boston has us in stitches. She announces that she has taken the position on her tube cause it’s ‘a lazy river and it’s comfortable’. It really looks particularly uncomfortable to Jamei and I and we get the giggles. One of the photographers catches the moment too.

After a day in the sun and water we are all kind of wiped so we make a collective decision to head back home and head out to grab a cab home. Once again the traffic is horrendous. It pays to know the area, as we pass a street I know will take less time to walk home than stay in the cab, due to the one way streets, so we pay the driver and do the final leg on foot.
The girls are keen to relax on the rooftop pool and I decide to get a foot massage. A very necessary part of any day here in Bali. So with Smirnoff in hand I head for another spa I am familiar with down the road.

I realise that it’s nearly time to head out to a restaurant with Jamei because we are keen to watch the NRL footy finals which we know are playing down the road at a place called Sugar Rays. I grab some snacks for Boston as she is keen to chil out and order in Maccas takeaway, quite the novelty. No Uber eats in our area back home.
Jamei and I head out and I am so excited when I read the menu. I find it difficult to decide, and Jamei laughs when I finally order something that I didn’t even say I was going to have. But I am pretty happy with my Surf and Turf when it arrives. It tastes as good as it looks.

Jamei and I enjoy dinner, a few drinks and the game. Her team Sydney Roosters are playing. While it’s not a great game, it is a close one and we are joined by other fans in the restaurant so there’s good banter and atmosphere. We sit near the owner who is going for the opposing team so we do enjoy giving him a bit of a hard time when his team loses.
We settle our bill and head for home. Boston is found sitting out the bed enjoying her Maccas and watching The Karate Kid, and I opt to blog downstairs. It’s a perfect night so I sit and enjoy the crazy Saturday night passing trade.
Tomorrow will be our first rest day. I am sure we will find something to fill in our day for sure.
