To say that I was excited waking up this morning was an understatement. It’s 13 May 2018 and this trip has finally arrived.
My daughters came and cuddled me for Mother’s Day but their commitment lied with basketball today so they were headed off much earlier than me. They Snapchatted their goodbyes and we’re off to Wollongong for the day.
After a boozy send off with a very dear friend last night I thought I’d need coffee and some greasy breakfast.
I went to start the car………nope! Nothing happening, so after a call to roadside assistance it was determined that I needed a new car battery. Urgh! But nothing could dampen my mood.
Now that’s been fixed I set off for coffee and food and call mum for Mother’s Day. She’s already on her way to me to surprise me with a quick farewell and make sure I’ve packed everything. I don’t think mums ever stop doing stuff like that.
Soon my brother arrives, as he’s my transport to the train station. Where I live is about an hour and half north of Sydney so to get to the airport it’s so easy to just jump on a train.

Its all pretty easy at the kiosk to check in. So my bag is off and it’s time for some relaxation time in the Qantas Club. A special treat as always that I never take advantage of having.
Not before being yelled at for using my phone in the customs area. I wasn’t the only one in trouble though.
“Didn’t you see the sign?” – well obviously not I had my face in my phone not looking up at the signs on the walls.
its amazing how quickly the time passes before boarding. I’d filled in the time with some final calls and messages to friends and family while sipping on some bubbly of course!
I board the flight keeping cheerful with all the staff. A smile goes a long way. And when asked “how are you?”, when my reply was “I’m so good it’s dangerous” the crew were taken aback but loved it and ask me if I could spread that around the whole plane. I’m sure that was possible, but for now I will take my seat and see who’s my travel companions for this leg.
Id chosen an aisle seat so I could get up and down as needed throughout the flight. The flight wasn’t full either so it meant that there was a spare seat next to me.
I noticed so many solo travelers on my flight. It made me wonder whether this is actually something that has always been happening or maybe it’s just that I’ve noticed it more on this trip.
Across the aisle was a lady from Gold Coast who was definitely enjoying the bar service so I thought I’d strike up a conversation with her.
We hit it off and decided to move our conversation away from those sleeping around us. We had a chat with the staff in the galley which was great, because I’d been so friendly to them throughout the flight one of them offered me a champagne from first class. She returned with some bubbly, marshmallows and macaroons. A nice treat.
The first leg of the flight was nearly done and we stopped at Changi Airport Singapore, for refueling. So I went on the hunt for the Qantas Club and found that there was some Laksa on offer. My favourite!!! I was warned when I walked into the lounge that there will be no boarding calls , I had to try to keep an eye on the time so I didn’t miss it. The plane was at the furthest most gate in the airport. Lucky I don’t mind a bit of a walk these days.
Back into the plane for the longer part of the journey and couldn’t wait to get a bit more sleep. This time the plane was full. No problems with me though. I still had my seat on the aisle.
Had some dinner then took a sleeping tablet to get enough sleep to keep me going on the other side. Worked a treat and got a good chunk of sleep over the 13 hour flight.
After stirring I thought I’d stretch my legs and grab some cheese and biscuits which were in the galley, so of course chatted to the staff again. It would seem there were some not very nice people on this plane, so I’d offered to “accidentally” go past and knock them on their head. They laughed but declined the offer – obviously!
Other than sleeping and snacking, there’s not much more to tell, except that I’d nearly be arriving on the other side of the world!
My adventure will be ready and waiting for me!
